Struggling to the End

Struggles abound as I try to write the ending to Palace of Three Crosses. I have twins that don’t want me to stop and keep finding all kinds of trouble to get into. I have a published novel that I have discovered needs more and an infant character who has no clue what’s coming and finally but not least, some sort of writer’s block. Generally I don’t believe in writer’s block. For me it has been more of a matter of bichok (butt in chair, hands on keyboard). Unfortunately this has been one of those times when that hasn’t worked. I have had to sit back and patiently wait for the twins to guide me. Over the last two weeks they have done it ever so slowly and painfully. Anyway decisions have been made and I am writing again. So first the decisions and then a little teaser.

Decision One: This story will be finished, I can’t tell you how, but I do know the ending.

Decision Two: There will be a third book, which will incorporate Aaron’s Revenge along with the rest of the character’s that have monopolized my life. So all the ideas and shenanigans of the Brandan and Joachim that have kept me from finishing Three Crosses will now be told in Book Three, title yet to be determined. The reason for this decision, is that too much has happened in Twelve Pillars and Three Crosses and made Aaron’s Revenge almost anti climatic in that it doesn’t fully address and wind up the stories of the main characters in the trilogy. Besides in getting to know Brandan, I have come to realize that he wouldn’t just sit still and hide for fifteen years waiting for something to happen.

Now for the teaser:  This is a scene from Twelve Pillars, a foreshadowing if you will about how Three Crosses might end and the third story start. Enjoy.

Chapter XIII: The Battle Begins

“Your timing is not so perfect.” Rupert waved his arm at the valley below. “All is lost, Asha has abandoned us. I no longer know what to do.”

“No, you’re wrong. He is always with you. As for this battle, it’s only a small stumbling block. Asha’s plan is yet to be fulfilled. There is one still to come, who will be the fruition of it. We must be patient and wait.”

To see Asha and His followers triumphant, to see the promised one relieve us of this sorrow.”

“Don’t worry teacher, he is near. We’ll see that day. Our patience and faith will be rewarded.”

Rupert sat on a boulder. “I know you’re right, but it is hard to wait. It has been many years since I’ve seen one with the potential to save us.”

“Yes, Aga adepts are rare.” Salochin sat beside Rupert. “But you have seen the signs, first on Theodric and then on his sons. We know that our redemption cannot be far behind. Theodric’s line will produce that savior and until then we must continue to groom adepts. He will be revealed when we don’t expect it.”

Rupert bowed his head. “You are right once again. My student has become the teacher. All the portents are there, starting with Waldrom’s defection to evil, taking Mahorg with him and breaking a century’s long alliance to the birth of twin princes, to Theodric and Lilia, War Chief and Adept to Crato. From this shall come the Aga Adept, one that Asha has anointed as His own. I’ve not been as diligent in my studies of the Annals as I should. Thank you for your gentle reminder. Now I must see to Theodric and Crato, for they will need my guidance in future days.”

Happy Writing and God Bless,

Chris
