Woohoo it is finished. I reached 50,166 at 12:30 p.m. Ahead of even my own projections. I had estimated at a schedule of 2000 words a day and taking Sundays and Thanksgiving I should have been at 38000 this morning. Instead I was at 48000. Who could not finish it at that point. Now I can coast for the rest of the month, work on my other wip, spend time with my family and just breathe. What a wonderful feeling.
Now for the one down side, although it is not really a down side: The story is not finished. At one point last week my characters took control of the story and before I was able to regain control they had created a few plot twists that took the story in a slightly different direction. Because of this I foresee 40 to 50k more words. No biggie, I can tackle it.
So anyway, I always hear writers say that rewrite is the best part of the writing process, I might at least to some degree disagree. For even though this last month has been a grueling journey it has also been a great deal of fun. I have enjoyed adding life and personality to my characters, exploring the world in which they live and seeing where they will take me. And yes I said “take me.” One thing I have learned or maybe relearned is that for me writing is an unexpected and thouroughly enjoyable ride through the world I have created. I am so thankful and happy that God has given this talent for story telling.
Now to return to my regularly scheduled life with a little bit of prince’s and angels along with faraway worlds thrown in for a little excitement. Oh and Myrria is telling me not to forget the dragons. Can’t ever forget the dragons.
