The other day my eight year old daughter, Ana, misplaced her brand new sunglasses. We were on our way out the door to church when she realized they were missing. Through tears and screaming we delayed our exit and dismantled our house to search. It was all to no avail, we didn’t find them and left for mass. When we returned, I thought I would look again, knowing they had to be in the house somewhere. I walked over to a large recliner in our family room. The chair has been in the same general place since we moved into the house; in fact it was the first piece of furniture that moved in. We don’t sit in it much and it is frequently used as a landing zone for Ana’s stuff that I don’t want on the floor.

Isn’t this the same way I often search for God or search for answers to my problems? I look in all the wrong places for my answers. I turn to other people and things only to become frustrated and discouraged when they let me down.
Yet, God, like that recliner sits there and patiently waits for me come to Him. He is always right in front of me, in the most obvious places. I don’t have to scream and cry to find Him. I don’t have to dismantle my life.

Lord Jesus, help me to remember that you are the best place to turn when I am searching for answers.
Create a list of the things you turn to in times of need. Then consider the results of each. Have you felt satisfied? Were the results what you expected and if so, were they what you truly needed? Next time you are searching for something, before you tear down the house ask God for help, then see if you are more satisfied with the answer.
