Author Blog Challenge: Day 3 and 4

Okay since I was ill yesterday and missed writing the challenge, I figured I would attack it today. It kind of works out because the two prompts are somewhat related.

I can’t even begin to list all of the classes I have taken over the years to hone my skills. It seems as if I am always in one class or another. I will mention a few of them here. As previously mentioned I started my writing career by taking two classes at the Institute of Children’s Literature; http://www.institutechildrenslit.com/. I also took one at the sister school Longridge Writer’s Group; http://www.longridgewritersgroup.com/ for writing novels for adults. Writers Village University; https://www.writersvillage.com/is another place that offers great classes. Another place where I have taken a couple of classes is with Beth Jones http://www.bethjones.net/. Beth is a great instructor that has helped to keep me grounded spiritually as well as focused on my writing. In fact she would be classified as one of my mentors and role models.

Just recently I have started a few classes with Karina Fabian at http://karinafabian.com/. I would also consider her one of my writing role models.

Other role models: Darlene Reilley qualifies as a role model, mentor and the other half of my brain. I don’t know where my writing would be without her love and support.

A few friends from my ICL days are Trish Green, Lucie Bouchard Antoniazzi and George Kulz. Even though I have never met these three in person we traveled through our classes at ICL together and have kept in touch and supported each other on our life journeys.

There are so many other people that I could mention and I’m meeting new ones all the time, so I’ll just stop there.

There is one more question I want to answer; Teaching workshops. I have taught a couple. While still living in Washington state in prep for NANO I taught a couple of writing workshops. I have also helped two Girl Scout troops work on writing badges through a series of workshops. I really enjoy working with the teens and would love the opportunity to do it again, when the opportunity presents itself. Someday when my writing load eases up a little I will explore that again.
