A to Z Challenge: C is for Coddiwople

I am always on the lookout for unique words that could inspire my writing and last week the word Coddiwople showed up on my Facebook feed. Besides being a cool word to look at, it had an interesting definition. Definition: to travel in a purposeful direction  toward a vague destination. As I read this definition I thought about my life and my writing. There are times when I have traveled toward a vague destination, but for the most part I usually have a pretty good idea where I am traveling to. On the other hand my writing is very different. I do travel in a purposeful direction, but if I try to plan an intransigent destination I usually stumble and can’t finish the story. So having a vague destination is a better plan of action for me. While I purposefully travel through the story, the characters appreciate a vague destination.

Conclusion for me: In life coddiwopling is okay sometimes, but in my writing coddiwopling is the way to go most of the time.
