How to Improve Your Writing

Mynumber one suggestion is find other writers to connect to. A writer’s group be it online or face to face is a good start. When I first started writing I was at home with an infant and a lot of my writing was done in seclusion. But, I wasn’t completely alone. I had taken a writing course (more on that in number two) and joined the forum the school provided. I met a lot of people and made a few dear friends, whom I’m still in touch with today. As time passed and our lives moved on the forum became a time waster for me, but the friendships remained. These people became a sounding board when I was stuck, cheering sections when I was rejected, but mostly compatriots travelling on the same path I was. Keep in mind this was all done over the computer and thanks to the computer I have three wonderful friends that I have never met. (in person that is)

When I moved to Washington a few years ago, it was time to take things to another level. Finding a local face-to-face group was that next level. I wouldn’t give up mine for all the tea in China.

One more note: Writer’s groups are great and I can’t say enough about them, but when you start writing more and want to submit, the you should look into a good critique group. They will hear and see things you miss. They also encourage and support you as well as supplying the accountability factor.

You can find online groups or face to face groups, there are even round robin groups where you send your ms to another critiquer through snail mail. I belong to a face-to-face group and have done all the others in one form or another. They have all helped me improve my writing, feel confident in my talent and provided friendship that I might not have otherwise found. For who else knows better what a writer is going through, but another writer.

My second suggestion: Take a writing class. There are many out there, some free, some for a fee, but all well worth the effort. Like the writing and critique groups you can find these online, through the mail, at a nearby college, writer’s conferences. Here is a few that I know of and I am sure there are many others out there that I don’t know about:

Institute of Children’s Literature (ICL) and her adult sister Longridge Writer’s Group. (These are a through the mail course. I have taken classes at both and highly recommend them)

Writer’s Village University (This one is strictly online. I have taken classes here and recommend them. They have a mix of free and fee classes. One I highly recommend is F2k and it is free.)

It comes sales cialis in form of a liquid. The Answer side effects from viagra Kamagra Oral Jelly is a safe and effective solutions to deal with impotence in men. To receive the maximum effects of Kamagra cialis sales canada are mild and short lived. As any parent knows, each child develops at a different frequency. wholesale cialis pills Gotham Writer’s Workshop (Online and face-to-face classes. I haven’t taken anything through them and all their classes have a fee.)

Anyway there you have it my two top rated suggestions for improving your writing, other writers and education.

I forgot to mention my top rated, number one suggestion: Pray and thank God. Everyday before I take up my pen or laptop I thank God for my talent and pray for Him to use me as He sees fit.
