Here’s a little peek at what the twins are up to, but not too much:
Joachim and Rupert stood next to the workshop remains.
“Sire, I think you should be careful. Something isn’t right here. I’m not sure
what, but I sense evil still haunts this place and is pulling Brandan back into its web.”
“I think you’re wrong, Rupert. Everything’s fine. The land is being reborn, and even though there’s not enough crop for a harvest this year, next year Asha willing…”
Lightning blazed across the sky, and thunder pealed. A glingkol tree, older than the Palace of Three Crosses, crashed to the ground, narrowly missing them.
“What was that? There is no sign of a storm. The sky is clear, and the sun
shines brightly.” Joachim tilted his head back to scan the heavens.
“I don’t know, Sire, but I think it would suit us to get into the palace before
something else happens. This only serves to prove my point.”
“You’re being a cautious and foolish old man besides missing a dear friend.
Soon the memorial will be over, and we can rest.
“Brandan agreed to postpone his joining for a few days. So we have the
evening for grieving. And maybe we can convince him he should not rush into this partnership.”
Rupert took one last look at the tree. Was this an omen of things to come he wondered. He turned his worried gaze to the young man at his side.
“Come on, you worry too much, Rupert. All will be well, I’m sure of it. Asha
will watch out for us all.”
Another bolt of lightning streaked across the sky, and another crash of thunder chased it. Rupert led the way quickly into the palace.
