Updates

Just a quick note to let you all know where things are.

You know I have been querying Palace of Twelve Pillars since the end of August.  Here are the numbers on the 14 queries that have been emailed:

Five rejections

Five still waiting for responses

One accepted and I rejected

And two have asked for and recieved full ms

With a third one asking for a ms and synopsis as well as a synopsis of Palace of Three Crosses and Sanctuary of Nine Dragons. This one just happened today and I never expected the publisher to be interested in all three novels, since I only went in there pitching one novel. But she asked if it was a stand alone, I told her yes, although there were to other books that could make it into a series. When she asked the progress of the other two, I about fell off my chair. So long story short, I now have someone looking at the whole series and have to get my butt in gear with a synopsis and getting the third one finished. Things are hopping now.

I’ll keep you posted.

Book Review: Night of the Living Dead Christian

Book Review: Night of the Living Dead Christian

Author: Matt Mikalatos

Night of the Living Dead Christian is a fun romp.  At first I had trouble with his “monster” take on things. Once I got past that, it was an enjoyable read, with some thought provoking premises that it would not hurt every Christian to consider.

A few of his notions seemed a little unrealistic, but taken in the overall context Mr. Mikalatos pulls off his ideas very well.

I recommend this book if you are looking for a light quick and sometimes funny read that will give you a little food for thought.

Book Review: The Jesus Inquest

Book Review: The Jesus Inquest

Author: Charles Foster
Book Review: The Jesus Inquest By: Charles Foster [[ASIN:0849948118 The Jesus Inquest: The Case For and Against the Resurrection of the Christ]]

When first seeing this book on a list for review I thought what a wonderful opportunity. I like to think that although I have a strong faith I am also open minded and willing to hear what other people think.

Although the book has a promising premise Mr. Foster’s arguments left me at times feeling like I was a fool for my faith in Jesus and all that occurred in His life. Then is when I put the book down and could not complete it.

I realize that Mr. Foster attempted to present both sides of the argument, but I feel as if his arguments appeared biased in favor of all the things that I have believed since childhood are false.

This was a very difficult read and I apologize to Mr. Foster for not finishing the book, but I am not ready to turn my faith over to the secular world.

Book Review: In the Aerie of the Wolf

Book Review: In the Aerie of the Wolf

Author: Leonora Pruner

Book Review: In the Aerie of the Wolf By Leonora Pruner [[ASIN:0982707487 In the Aerie of the Wolf]]

Leonora Pruner’s In the Aerie of the Wolf is an interesting gothic romance. Usually this is not the genre I read but being a Christian fantasy writer this book had some Christian and fantasy elements that I thought I could dig my reading teeth into.

Unfortunately I was disappointed. The romance and Christian elements were right on, although the Christian was sometimes a little heavy handed. The concept of a young woman being sold into marriage to save the family and ultimately falling in love with her unknown spouse was intriguing and well handled by Pruner.

It was in the fantasy and mystery elements where I believe Ms. Pruner fell short. She introduced the werewolf legend along with the disfigured residents of the castle but yet never satisfyingly explained them or tied up the story line. The battle scene at the climax of the book, for me at least was somewhat truncated and surprising. I felt the build up to the the confrontation between the brothers just wasn’t there. The reader knows that someday the brothers will confront each other, but I don’t feel there was enough suspense built in so when the battle does happen the reader although surprised does not feel the intensity of the moment.

Ms. Pruner does an good job of putting the reader in Anne Crofton’s world and has planted seeds for a wonderful romance with a touch of intrigue.

Michal: The Rejected Daughter and Wife

Read and Ponder: 2 Samuel 3: 13-16

Ten years have passed and Michal has been without David and adjusted to life with her second husband, but Saul has died and David is king. David has not been loyal in the intervening years and has taken a couple of new wives. In a demonstration of his position, he demands the return of Michal, not because he loves her but in a political show of his power. Again, Michal is used as property.

Questions to Ponder:

  1. Do I let worldviews and practices influence my emotions and actions?
  2. Do I turn from worldviews and practices and rely on God for what I need?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, help me to be less like Michal and more like Leah. Help me avoid bitterness and look toward you as I move through painful life events.

For the Glory of God,
