Let Me Walk on Water

Peter said to him in reply, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”  He said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened: and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt? ” After that they got into the boat, the wind died down.

What changed? Why did Peter start to sink? Did Jesus give up? It is interesting that Peter actually did start to walk on water. For a fraction of a second he had complete faith in Jesus.

The same thing happens to us, we walk a good game when things are going smoothly, when it’s easy. But as soon as the waves get rough, when life gets uncomfortable, we turn from God. We turn to ourselves, to human solutions, then we get angry with God because we started to sink.

What would happen if we didn’t turn from God? Instead we placed more trust in Him. The seas would remain stormy, but we would have God’s hand. He would guide us through the storms, show us the best way to traverse the rough life.

  1. Hey Chris! Awesome Post! What you say is so true! I was thinking the other day about why people of today’s time turn to their own devices and solutions instead of turning to God in times of trouble or need. After all, children turn to their parents, (some even after their grown). So, why do we find it so hard to turn to our Heavenly Father, when we KNOW that He is much more capable of helping us than even our earthly parents? I am unfortunately guilty of the same a lot of times. I am trying to “condition” myself pray about situations as soon as they happen, and wait on the LORD, but I still have trouble with the “waiting”. Hoping I will eventually get there. Thank You for reminding me to show more faith and wait on the LORD. God Bless,
    PJ
