IN Everything Give Thanks
In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (1Thessalonians 5:18 NAB)
What a difference one word can make. When we read this verse many of us interpret it to say give thanks FOR everything. What if instead of reading what we think it says, we read what is really there: IN everything give thanks. In everything, not For everything. And not thanks for only the good things, but thanks for the bad, thanks in our times of trial, our times of pain. All are God’s way of refining us in His fire, of bringing us closer to Him through His Son and the Holy Spirit.
Our thanks or lack thereof should not be a response to our present circumstances, but to the future life God has planned for us. He has something we need to learn from every trial, every joy. Our lives should be a continuous celebration of thanks and praise for all God has given us; the good, the bad and the ugly. This path will lead to a sense of joy and peace that can only be found IN the Father. It is the will of God.
So let us this Thanksgiving and always:
IN everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
All for the Glory of God,
