For This Lent: Turn to God

Then the devil took him up to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their magnificence, and said to him, “All these I shall give to you, if you will prostrate yourself and worship me.” (Matthew 4:8-9)

Satan isn’t being tricky here. He’s done it before, and he’ll do it again. He thought Jesus would chuck it all and come to him. At least in Jesus’s case Satan was mistaken, but when he tempts you does he make a mistake. I may not bow down before Satan, but when my mind is consumed by money, food, anything, that is exactly what I am doing. I have put these things before God. I haven’t trusted. I haven’t let God’s will be done.

This Lent I will pray and clear away the clutter that Satan has put between me and God. I will replace it with things of God. I will trust God, I will let His will be done.

Most gracious and forgiving God, Thank you for all the gifts you have given me and the challenges that you have placed before me. May I always no matter what promises Satan offers, turn away from him and into your arms. Lord Jesus, you are all that I need, the answer to my prayers. Let me rely on you, bow to you. For you are the only one I need. Amen.
